Chapter Five
Kyle clutched the sheets of paper tight. Excited and anxious, he could barely contain himself. “Finally,” he muttered as he climbed out of the bed. It was an awkward endeavour since he didn’t release the survey. Crawling out of a bed, especially one as high and soft as Dieter’s, was more than a little difficult.
Without a backward glance, he strode from the bedroom to the living room, flicking lights on as he went. When he reached the seating area, he simply stood in the middle of the room for several seconds. He wanted to lower his head and look at the questionnaire, read the answers provided, but he couldn’t.
He’d waited months for these answers and now that he had them, he wasn’t sure he wanted them. What if they weren’t the answers he was looking for? Didn’t point him in the direction he wanted to go? Disproved the hypothesis he’d spent months trying to prove?
“You know you’re naked, right?”
“Huh?” He turned slightly to look at Dieter. The tall European was standing in the area that separated the living room from the kitchen. Hunter-green lounge pants hung low on his slim hips. Kyle’s gaze automatically trailed the line of coarse hair from his belly to the top of his bottoms.
“Kyle?” Silver eyes captured his.
“Sorry. What?”
The right corner of Dieter’s mouth lifted. “You’re naked, sweetheart. I don’t mind the view, but…”
“Oh…I…well…” Kyle sputtered, and looked down. Sure enough he wasn’t wearing anything. “Be right back,” he murmured. Lightly, he placed the papers down and marched out of the room with as much dignity as possible. Once he reached the bedroom, he quickly closed the door behind him and ran over to his jeans. He fairly jumped into his pants, he dressed so quickly. Once clothed, he took a seat on the bed, took a deep breath, stood and walked back out.
He didn’t head straight for the questionnaire. Instead he went over to Dieter’s kitchen and asked, “I know it’s late, but can I get a mocha?”
Dieter padded over to him. “You’ll be up all night. What about work tomorrow?”
Kyle snorted. “Like I’m going to be able to sleep now. I’ve got answers, man. Answers,” he exclaimed. Usually Kyle passed out halfway through the night and that was just enough sleep to get him through the day. “Don’t worry about work. I’ll be fine. Will Starbucks it out. I really should take my ass home, but…” He trailed off and glared at Dieter. “Someone convinced me to stay the night.”
Dieter dipped his head and pressed a quick kiss to Kyle’s lips. Wide grin on his mouth, he pulled back. “You‘ll probably crash tomorrow night, right after work,” he warned over his shoulder before turning to the espresso machine. “Want a plain mocha or flavoured?”
“True,” Kyle replied. If he could, he kept his word, but he really stayed because he wanted the chance to question Dieter if he didn’t understand his answers or if the replies brought up more questions.
“Kyle?”
He focused on the European.
